The Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) in Goa celebrated its women employees with a host of specially curated events through March, each revolving around this year’s theme for International Women’s Day – #ChooseToChallenge. The celebrations involved an amalgamation of wellness sessions, fun activities with the management, interactive sessions with inspirational women from various fields, self-defence training and informative talks on women’s health.
Speaking on the celebrations, Vincent Ramos, Area Director – IHCL, Goa and General Manager – Taj Resort & Convention Centre, Goa said, “At IHCL, women have always played an important role in the organisation with their contribution and by pushing boundaries. Our initiatives towards improving the gender balance in the organisation include focused efforts to increase the proportion of women in the workforce, skill upgradation and promoting the representation of women in leadership roles. In addition, the recently announced South Asia’s first all women-managed luxury residences, Taj Wellington Mews in Chennai, is in line with the Company’s ongoing efforts in creating an equitable workplace and ecosystem.”
IHCL has taken many strides to foster gender equality, both, within and outside the organisation. Several progressive policies like extended maternity leave, compulsory crèche facilities, an expense reimbursement for family expansion including IVF treatments and skilling women in the under-served communities and regions to improve their participation in the workforce have been implemented successfully. These efforts have resulted in developing a talent pool and a higher ratio of women across the company.
IHCL remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthen gender parity within the industry in the coming years.
